Pcell Creation

Hi All,

I am trying to create a pcell for nmos. I have added a stretchline in X-direction with name length,  saved and compiled to pcell.

While instantiating the pcell in another cell, I am able to see the form asking for length, But cannot see the physical transistor(nmos).

In CIW , I am getting an warning.

WARNING (DB: 270000) :  dbCreateExtParamInst : Invalid String Index.

I am using ICADV12.1 version of virtuoso tool.

Can anyone help me.

Thanks In Advance.

bsrin

    Debugging this is almost impossible without seeing the pcell. If you can't share it here (which I doubt, unless you can build one on a gpdk-based technology?), please contact customer support.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi bsrin,

    It sounds like you are trying to create a graphical PCell - this is not really recommended these days - it would be better to create the PCell as a SKILL PCell.  SKILL Pcells are much more flexible, allowing more complex structures which are easier to maintain and debug than an 'equivalent' graphical PCell would be (if that complexity is even possible with a graphical PCell).  The good news is that there are some samples in your installation hierarchy.  Look in the following directory to get started:

    `cds_root virtuoso`/tools/dfII/samples/ROD/rodPcells

    There is an 'install' directory where you can load the spcLoadInstall.il file from and you then get a menu to control installing the PCell examples.  You can also view the documentation associated with the PCell samples: "Sample Parameterized Cells Installation and Reference" - the docs show this sequence for loading them:

    setSkillPath(cons(prependInstallPath("samples/ROD/rodPcells")
        getSkillPath()))
    load("install/spcLoadInstall.il")
    spcInstall()

    Hopefully this will help to get you started!

    Best regards,

    Lawrence.
