How to open layout.oa

Virtuoso (and other OA applications) expect the individual database files to be part of a library. Generally they need to be in an "oaDMFileSys" structure (OA does support a different filesystem organization called turbo file system, but it's not deemed to be of production quality).

Put another way, you'd expect to see a file called layout.oa to live within a layout cellView in a Virtuoso library. There's no "import" - you just need to have the cellView in the right place. 

Not sure where you got this "layout.oa" file from, but it is not normal practice to only send somebody this single file - you'd normally get a containing library (or at least a containing cellView directory).

 I asked support for layout example of ncap (nmoscap), I look for some cell in gds format but I get this "layout.oa"

 Which "support" are you talking about? Are you talking about Cadence customer support? If so, it's best to ask them how to use what they've sent you...

It was foundry support, I asked for example because documentation do not clearly specify how to use special layer etc. So now I stay with problem how to open this example.

The layout..oa file is the data file for the cellView but it has to exist in a library/cell/view context in order for Virtuoso or any OpenAccess tool to make sense of it. The foundry should have sent you a library which contains the cellView directories:

libDirectory/cellDirectory/viewDirectory/layout.oa

CMOS45/nmoscap/layout/layout.oa

In addition, you need the technology file to define the layers used in the cell.

If you already have the technology library, you can create the proper cell and view directory structure in your cell library directory and move the file into the view directory. No guarentee that it will work but it might.

Your post help me solve my problem, I create new library, set tech and map file in next step I replace layout.oa to my file and everything start working.
