ipcBeginProcess...

 Hi Andrew,

I have written a code to open an excel thruogh perl.I am using cid=ipcBeginProcess("perl filename.pl").

The perl file is as below -

 #!/usr/local/bin/perl  -w

use Spreadsheet::WriteExcel
my $workbook=Spreadsheet::WriteExcel->new('perl.xls');
$worksheet=$workbook->add_worksheet('sheet2');

my$worksheet->write(0,0, "Helllo" )

--------------------------------------

I am getting " Badly placed ()'s " as an error message, when I execute it [cid=ipcBeginProcess("perl filename.pl")] in terminal. I want to combine it with a skill code.Can you please help?

    Why are you trying to execute a SKILL command in a terminal rather than at the prompt in the CIW?

     I am trying to use this piece of perl code in a skill program only.But right now, I wanted to veify its working sepatarely through terminal.

    Just type:

    perl filename.pl

    then. Nothing to do with SKILL or Cadence tools...

    Yes, but for this particular program, I get an error -"Can't locate Spreadsheet/WriteExcel.pm"  when I execute it from the terminal,since I am trying to open an excel file.

    This isn't a perl forum - presumably you've either not installed that module from CPAN or you've not configured perl to be able to find it (perhaps you just didn't install it at all?).

     No Andrew, i will finally include this in a skill program itself. My aim is
    to generate an excel containing names of all the instances  and
    corresponding attributes from a Cadence Virtuoso Layout.  Locally, it works
    fine as i have installed it. But, is there any way, when I connect to
    client's server[ whence I get Cadence License] , i can run the code
    through  that remote terminal ? ... using ipcBeginProcess() ?

    If your perl script only works on a particular machine, you can use the second argument of ipcBeginProcess to launch the process on a specified host (assuming you can rsh or ssh onto it without a password - normally it's rsh, but you can use ssh (in IC61X releases, by creating a copy of <ICinstDIr>/share/cdssetup/cdsRemsh/cdsRemote.scr in a directory called cdsRemsh which is somewhere in your setup.loc dir, with the line to decide between rsh and ssh changed).

    But I'm not sure if this is what you're asking - your question is rather confusing.
