ipcskillprocess control

I am using ipcSkillProcess to extract Cadence schematic information. I am sending a command to a skill procedure from perl and seems to be working fine.

lcid = ipcSkillProcess("DisplaySchematicTree")

while(ipcIsActiveProcess(lcid)

;based on the input i get perform an operation perform an operation here

)

This seems to be working fine. But  the ipc process(in this case "DisplaySchematicTree" controls the virtuoso session and i cannot peform any operations on my Cadence database.

Can somebody share there experience on how to solve this issue.

Thanks

    Hi there,

    you probably want to use ipcBeginProcess() to invoke the external script/process in asynchronous mode.

    Take a look at Solution Article 11789648.

    Hopefully this will help you.

    Best regards,

    Lawrence.

    Also ipcSkillProcess supports asynchronous mode.

    Thanks Andrew. Are you saying that i could use ipcSkillProcess the same way as ipcBeginProcess as Lawrence suggests.

    Yes - essentially both ipcBeginProcess and ipcSkillProcess support providing a callback function for stdout, stderr and program exit - which essentially means that as soon as output is produced, that SKILL callback gets asynchronously called. This means you don't necessarily need to have the blocking behaviour that you're having with your current implementation.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
