Reading a list of columns

Your question is rather imprecise. For example:

1. Where is it reading this list of columns from? Is it a file? Is it an existing list?
2. What defines a "column" - i.e. what is the separator, what kind of data are you expecting in each column? Numbers? Words?
3. Do you really want to read the list of columns and discard what you read so that it returns true or false?

If you don't ask a clear question, then you won't get a clear answer...

for example:     a list has a set of names  like as follows

list (cell1 cell2)

In this list it want find second column

But i required only column

so code want to show error

Your question is still very poorly framed. So let me give some assumptions and a possible solution. If you have two lists:

good=list(
  list("cell1")
  list("cell2")
  list("cell3")
)

bad=list(
  list("cell1")
  list("cell2" "info2")
  list("cell3" "info3")
)

then you could do:

data=bad ; or data=good
when(exists(row data cdr(row))
  error("more than one column")
)
