layering objects

hi,

i need to get the coordinates and layer of objects in my view.
i have an instance, pcell and group. i want to get all objects inside them and in all levels.

Is this just a hierarchical traversal of the database using a recursive function? There are numerous examples of doing that in these forums. Unfortunately your requirements are not very precisely described!
