Creating multiple paths vs. routes

Howdy,

What are the comparative advantages of using a route with pathSegs vs. mutliple paths (or just a single path) within a SKILL pcell?

Thanks,

Jeremy

    Jeremy,

Within a PCell, there's not many advantages, other than you can (with careful construction) ensure that the edge and centre line vertices are on grid when using pathSegs (if you have 45 degree segments), which you can't do with a single path. You don't have the benefits of interactive routing with the wire editor (because you're inside a SKILL PCell), and interoperability with Place & Route tools like Innovus (or Encounter) doesn't matter because that's below the level of detail those tools would deal with - they won't see the wires as routes.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
