SKILL pCell STREAM OUT failure

DannyRitt
DannyRitt over 8 years ago

Hello,

A pCell fails during stream out stage.

(unsupported XStream function in Pcell SKILL)

All functions behaves normal during testing and are taken from previous Cadence development. The pCell also fails manual stream out procedure.

Thanks for your help...

Danny

    This is because when you create a PCell, it only stores the code in the body of the pcDefinePCell() in the pcell layout cellView. Any auxiliary function that you call is not stored. Your code is calling placeContactsNP and placeContactsPP and when you stream out (unless you pick the stream out from VM option) won't be known by the separate stream out process. Similarly if you exited virtuoso and started again, it would have the same problem unless you loaded the code again, which would recreate the PCell - which would mean  you have to have write access to the PCell each time you loaded the code.

    In general you should either separate the code which creates the PCell (and CDF) from the functions called within it. Here's how I made your code work properly with stream out:

    1. Right before the line pcDefinePCell( I added another line:
      procedure(myCreatePCell()
    2. Then at the very end of the file (after the "); let for CDF creation") I added another close parenthesis by adding a line:
      )
    3. This means that now the creation parts are separated from the functions used within the PCell.
    4. Now add a file called "libInit.il" in the library directory for testLibDR and in this file add:
      load("/path/to/the/code.il")
    5. This libInit.il is loaded the first time anything accesses that library, either in the stream out program or in Virtuoso, so that means all the relevant functions will be defined.
    6. In the CIW, also load the code.il file and then call myCreatePCell()

    All should then work correctly if you do this.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
