PCELL Evaluation failed error while using tsmcN28 HPC+ PDK

Hello everyone. I'm trying to debug a  PCELL evaluation error. I had layout database which is designed using tsmcN28HPC PDK, now we want to use the same database using tsmcN28HPC+ PDK (latest updated PDK HPC PLUS) . While I am trying to point the old database to the latest tsmcN28HPC+  design kit i am getting following PCELL evaluation warning. I am able to instantiate the Pcells and modify them in the layout but seeing a Pcell evaluation failed text in the layout. I am using Virtuoso 6.1.7 tool version.

*WARNING* (DB-270001): Pcell evaluation for PCIGEN_INV/rupolym_m/layout has the following error(s):
*WARNING* (DB-270002): ("times" 1 t nil ("*Error* times: can't handle (nil * 1000000)"))
*WARNING* (DB-270003): Error kept in "errorDesc" property of the label "pcellEvalFailed" on layer/purpose "marker/error" in the submaster.

Could some one please help me regarding this.

Thanks,
SANDEEP

I've seen similar errors when the width/length (or some other) field has a typo or missing unit designator... for instance it might be "3 M" insteaad of "3u M" or "300n M" ...

    Hi ,
Is the below errors related to PDK problem or others....We got pycells from latest PDK in tsmcN28nm can we use them in Cadence Virtuoso tools??

    Thanks,
    Sandeep

I'm not sure I understand the question.... looking again at your snipped it looks like whatever value is missing is to be multiplied by 1 million and is missing. The errordesc says (nil * 1000000), "nil" is parameter's value, simply meaning it's missing. Query the device and look for missing values... it could be that the value didn't get translated/added correctly during a PDK migration... TSMC could have simply added a parameter that didn't exist in the previous PDK. I have no experience with that particular PDK so I can't really offer any detailed insight.

I agree - this should be raised with TSMC. You could also try Cadence Customer Support as maybe us looking at it will allow us to figure out what's wrong.

Note that non-SKILL Pcells are not supported in Virtuoso (I can't comment whether they actually work in practice though - there is certainly some functionality that only works with SKILL rather than non-SKILL PCells).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thank you Andrew and Merf689, I will try to take Cadence Customer Support or TSMC in resolving this.
