PCELL and Parasitic menu's are missing in layout view

Hi,

I am trying to explore pcell creation using Virtuoso® parameterized cell software. But I can't able to find it in Launch->Pcell menu. This is similar to other options like Parasitics, Power EM/IR etc. Whether these virtuoso tools requires separate licensing? If not, am I missing any environment variables those are to enable these options?

It always helps to know which version of the tools you're running, because this is different in different versions. In recent versions (e.g. IC616 or IC617) you'd use Launch->Plugins->PCell. It does not require any special license or env var.

That said, I wouldn't recommend using the graphical pcell editor for anything other than very simple pcells because it gets messy to use it for anything complicated (the tool has not had any development for many years). We'd either recommend writing the PCells using SKILL or using a tool such as Cadence PCell Designer (for more details beyond the datasheet, contact your account manager)

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Andrew,
Yes, I am using IC617 and can able to find out PCell option there. I am new to pcell coding and thought of starting with Virtuoso® parameterized cell. I had similar questions on Cadence PCell Designer licencing. How I can verify Cadence PCell Designer available in my installation?

    Thanks for your help.

Since PCell Designer is an additional product which is not shipped with Virtuoso (it's a separately delivered package, albeit easy to load from Virtuoso), it's highly unlikely you have it (because I'd most likely know). It would show up at the bottom of the Tools menu in the CIW. The license is only available via a services contract as we need to have dedicated support.

If you're going to be doing a lot of PCells, I'd certainly say it's worthwhile (I'm biased though because it's developed by my team). As I said, if you're interested you should talk to your account manager (who can then contact me).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
