Grouping fields in createAppForm GUI

Mallikarjun032

Hi,

I have created a GUI having many fields.

But, some of the fields belong to a group like DRC, LVS etc.

I wanted to group the fields belonging to "DRC" and put a heading "DRC" for them. Same way for "LVS".

Please let me know how can it be done.

Thanks,

Mallikarjun

    Hi Mallikarjun,

You can use Frame field. It helps to visualize the GUI field inside a container kind of thing. But this is not an actual container which means if you move the position of frame field the inner fields will not move together.

    Hi Ramakrishnan,

Thanks a lot. This is exactly what I was searching for.

You might also want to consider using the new "layouts" in IC617 and later as these allow grouping of fields together as well as allowing you to have a geometry manager which doesn't require you to specify coordinates for your fields. Search in cdsFinder for "hi.*Layout" to see the available functions and use the More Info button in the finder to take you to the documentation for each function.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

Yes. These new functions are more like in Android programming. They are useful but just worried of backward compatibility. Is there any way we can dump out coordinates from a hi*Layout field?

Another follow up question. Is there any open source tool which can be used as SKILL GUI designer?

Not as far as I know. I remember a very old one many years ago but it wasn't very good (and it could only create window forms).

    Andrew.

There was CdsGit from        acook       about 3 years ago https://github.com/cdsgit/ which has a form component but I have not looked at or evaluated any of the code there.
