Change print paper size

Genas
Genas over 5 years ago

Hi,

I am using print to capture schematics (.ps) and converting to pdf. However, the available paper sizes from the drop down menu is only A2. I was wondering if anybody can provide assistance with how to add other paper sizes like A3, A4 etc. I am using IC6.1.7 .

Thanks

    Hi Genas,

In any of the windows in Virtuoso, use the Help menu and in the box at the top of the help menu, enter ".cdsplotinit". This will take you to the relevant parts of the documentation - in my case the first hit is "Setting Up Printer Options to Use Various Paper Sizes" which is a section in the schematic documentation, but has a link to the Plotter Configuration User Guide which will go into more detail.

When you bring up the plot form, the CIW will report which .cdsplotinit file(s) was/were read and you can then edit the definition in those files to add another paper size for the printer you are picking on the plot form.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks for your reply.

I followed the documentation, however, I couldnt modify the main .cdsplotinit file because I do not have the admin privileges. As a work around I am trying to load a copy (.cdsplotinit) from my local directory. How can I accomplish this because it is not letting me load it at the moment.

There are two mechanisms for finding the .cdsplotinit. The default is to look in the IC installation (<ICinstDir>/tools/dfII/local/.cdsplotinit), the home dir and the working dir (I think it loads all of them). However, if it has been configured to use "CSF" (Cadence Search File) then it may be looking in other locations.

    So, try doing:

    cdswhich -lookupconfig .cdsplotinit

to see if it says that it's using CSF (please post the output). If it is using it, then look for:

    cdswhich setup.loc

and then look at this file - it should tell you the locations where the file could be placed - hopefully one of those is writable...

    Andrew.

    Running the command returns error

    cdswhich -lookupconfig .cdsplotinit
    ^
SYNTAX ERROR found at line 3 column 24 of file *ciwInPort*
*Error* lineread/read: syntax error encountered in input

Sorry, I should have made this clear. This is a command to be entered at the UNIX prompt, ideally in the terminal where you'd be starting virtuoso (i.e. from the right UNIX directory). To be sure, you could use (in the CIW):

    sh("xterm &")

and then run the command in the xterm that is launched.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Running it on the command line shows me the actual .cdsplotinit file but the area is not writable because of access restrictions. Is it possible to copy it locally and load from my local area?

    If it doesn't say:

Info (cdswhich): Cadence software is not configured to locate
file '.cdsplotinit' via Cadence Search File mechanism

in the first case, then you would need to look at the locations in the "setup.loc" file found via the "cdswhich setup.loc" to determine which locations are writable (it's possible that the setup.loc has been modified to prevent the working directory from being used, although that's a little unusual).

    Regards,

    Andrew

"cdswhich setup.loc" returns the same location where the .cdsplotinit file is which is writable by admins only

That doesn't surprise me - it's probably a site-wide location. However, what you need to do is look at the contents of the setup.loc file in that location - this will tell you all the directories that it looks in to find the .cdsplotinit  - my hope is that at least one of these will be writable.

Actually, there's another way, which is to set the UNIX CDSPLOTINIT environment variable as described in How to point to the .cdsplotinit file, other than the default paths? However, not sure that works - I think if "CSF" is configured for the .cdsplotinit then it doesn't look at $CDSPLOTINIT any more. So forget that...

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I went through the list of directories in the setup.loc file and they are all managed by admin.
