rodAlign multiple instances

Julian Nagel

Hi,

is it possible to align multiple instances to multiple instances via SKILL in the Virtuoso Layout Suite like defined in rodAlign (I'd like to place the centerLeft of group1 on to the centerRight of group2)? Ideally, I would like to use the rodAlign command, because of the 'maintain' functionality. I've tried grouping the instances in a figGroup with the goal to align those groups. However, it seems to be impossible to get a rod object for a figure group. Also, I've found no way to solve this issue using dbCreateGroup or to get a rod object for a list of instances.

Thank you,

Julian

    You can only create rodAlign alignments between a pair of ROD objects (and figGroups are not ROD objects), so what you could do is something like this:

    first=rodGetObj(car(listOfInstances))
    foreach(inst cdr(listOfInstances)
      this=rodGetObj(inst)
      diff=rodSubPoints(this~>centerCenter first~>centerCenter)
      rodAlign(?refObj first ?alignObj this ?maintain t ?xSep xCoord(diff) ?ySep yCoord(diff))
    )

    The listOfInstances could come from the instances within your figGroup (say) if needed.

    You could do this for the members of one group, then the other group, and set up one more alignment between one of the members of each group (say) to align the two groups.

    Regards,

    Andrew
