get a list of the matched backreferences

Hello all.

Let's say I have a regular expression, which string is: "(a+)b*(c+)"

How can I get a list of the matched?

Preferably something independent of the number of backreferences.

    I was asked a very similar question by a colleague back in September. I thought it was a somewhat unusual request then, but here's what I put together at the time:

    procedure(abPcreGroups(pattern candidate)
        let((groups)
            when(stringp(pattern)
                pattern=pcreCompile(pattern)
            )
            pcreExecute(pattern candidate)
            for(subPat 1 pcreSubpatCount(pattern)
                groups=tconc(groups pcreSubstitute(pattern lsprintf("\\%d" subPat)))
            )
            car(groups)
        )
    )

    To use:

    > abPcreGroups("(a+)b*(c+)" "aaabbcc")
    ("aaa" "cc")
