Update hiCreateHypertextField without resetting scroll position

Hi,

I have a SKILL form which (amongst other things) displays the contents of a logfile with hyperlinks added to file paths etc. using a hypertext field created with hiCreateHypertextField(). The contents of the logfile is periodically queried, new lines processed to insert links, and the contents of the field updated using hiHypertextReplace() - this part works well. Unfortunately the act of updating the field contents causes the scrollbar to reset and makes it pretty much impossible to use the contents in any meaningful way until the process writing to the logfile is complete.

I would like to be able grab the current position of the data within the hypertext field before the data is refreshed and then restore it afterwards (or employ some other approach to prevent the position from being reset). I have tried using hiSetInsertionPosition()/hiGetInsertionPosition() and hiGetScrollBarInfo()/hiSetScrollBarValue() combinations in case those work but without luck.

Does anyone else have any ideas or know if this is even possible?

Thanks

Russ

    Hi Russ,

I think the only way of doing this is to use hiHypertextScroll but you might need to put some artificial anchor points in there and scroll to those (maybe something like and then you can get it to scroll to the anchor "END")? From a quick experiment this seems to work OK.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks Andrew. I can see using that approach I could at least implement a live tailing of the field/log data. I suppose that I could I enable/disable the live updates (and tailing) based on checkbox or similar - a bit clunky from a UX perspective but better than the present implementation.
