How to group objects in schematic or add data

Hi,

I have a skill that adds a lot of objects to a schematic (instances, wires, and wire labels )

I am looking for a way to delete all added objects later.

One option would be to create some group with all created objects, but it seems there is no option to create groups in the schematic.

Another option is to attach a list of all created objects to the schematic. Because it may be a lot of information, what is the best way to do this?

There's two kinds of groups in the database - groups and figGroups. groups are for creating groups of objects (which don't necessarily have to be selectable figures - they can be logical objects like nets) and they can also be ordered. They have no special editing capabilities in the tools - in other words they don't allow you to operate on the entire group. They can be ordered, and they can automatically delete themselves once all the members have been removed, for example. They are created with dbCreateGroup, and you can use dbAddObjectToGroup for example to add to the group.

There's also figGroups, which are used in layout for creating groups as you might see in Microsoft Powerpoint - you can select the entire group and move it around. They're also used for Synchronous Clones and so on. There's no real editing support for them in the schematic editor, so probably it makes more sense to use a normal group rather than a figGroup.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

    THank you for your responce.

I found ocp functions like opcCreatePersistentSet etc. Would it be proper to use this to store a list of created objects?

You could, I suppose. The main benefit of those is that they then show up in the navigator and can be manipulated from the navigator. Other than that, you could just use groups as I suggested (in which case they wouldn't appear in the navigator and the user couldn't interactively edit the groups).

It rather depends on how visible you want the groups to be!
