Calling a Function With Individual Entries From List

Itay I
Itay I over 2 years ago

Hello,

I have a list of integers and a function that expects individual integer entries. How should I call the function so all of the list elements will be individual?

For example:

mylist = (1 2 3)

myfunc(1 2 3) = OK

myfunc(mylist) = *Error* too few arguments (at least 2 expected, 1 given)

Thanks in advance

    This is to be expected - in the first case you are providing a set of 3 integers which are indeed three arguments.
    When you pass a list, containing 3 integers it is only one argument of a different data type - list.

    If you need to pass arbitrary number of arguments to your function you either can keep it as a single list or use the @rest identifier:

    Petar,

    I think Itay was just asking how to do apply('myFunc myList) rather than how to write variadic functions, although that might well be useful information too!

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Thank you both.

    Correct, I wasn't aware of "apply".
