How to freeze parameters on instantiated pcells

Is there a way to freeze parameters on instantiated pcells?

For example

  1. I have instantiated pcell I1 with a default parameter "spacingRule=1" in my layout. This parameter is invisible with CDF and can not be altered.
  2. At some point I alter the pcell code, and the default parameter changes to "spacingRule=1.5"
  3. I want my already instantiated pcell to keep the old value (1), but all my newly instantiated pcells must have the updated value.

I'm actually looking for a way to store a value on the instance when a new pcell is created. Is there a way to do this with CDF parameters or in the pcell code?

You can do this by setting storeDefault=yes in the CDF for that parameter. However, if you have existing instances using the original default value and you hadn't previously had storeDefault=yes, then this won't help - that's because there won't be a property on the instance itself already.
