User handles on rod instance.

First, I place an instance and convert it to a rod object.

Inst = dbCreateParamInstByMasterName(...)

rodInst = rodGetObj(Inst)

How can I create user handles corresponding to a shape within the instances?

The layer name of the shape within the instance is prBoundary.

Documentation seems to indicate that this cannot be done directly with rodCreateHandle.

    ROD handles (which aren't used a huge amount in my experience) can be added within a PCell; you can't add them on top of an existing PCell instance.

    I tend to prefer fluid PCells as these have much more flexibility and don't tend to end up ballooning the number of parameters (they're easy to create with PCell Designer), but even so these also are within the PCell rather than on top of an existing instance.

    I use system rod handles with rodAlign but have never once implemented a user handle.

    I've had a request to create a script that will place standard cells much like a P&R tool will do. But this is not based on a netlist, They just want the cells placed and aligned on the PR boundary.

    I can use other functions to find the enclosure of the bBox to the prBoundary and go from there. It will be slightly cumbersome but probably not overwhelming.

    Thanks,
    Morris
