How can I read Smith Chart in Virtuoso?

Hello everyone,

I am confused with the Smith Chart that Cadence’s Virtuoso plots. I have never seen such a representation of Smith chart over the past 20 years of my familiarity with and use of paper-based Smith Chart.

Could someone help me with reading Virtuoso’s Smith Chart? I need to make a correspondence between the paper-based Smith Chart and that displayed by Virtuoso. For example, where is the Center of Virtuoso’s Smith Chart? There is no correspondence at all between the two.

Thank you in advance for your attention and guidance.

Still Learning.

    Hi Still Learning,

The paper based and Virtuoso Smith Charts should be the same (e.g. the center of the chart is in the same place,
the values on the chart should correspond with the paper chart).  Of course paper Smith Charts have much more detail!
What subversion of software are you using?  Is it possible to submit a Service Request so we can look at this more
closely...just in case you discovered a bug?   The Smith Chart readability was greatly improved in IC6.1.5 Virtuoso.

    best regards,
    Tawna
