Help for checking gain of VCO in cadence spectre

Analog Design

Hi,

I am facing difficulty in checking VCO gain(frequency vs inputvoltage) and linearity (frequency vs inputvoltage) and lock range . Can anyone help me how to do checking of above simulation result in cadence spectre(IC.4....).

You're using a very old version of IC and spectre... I would recommend upgrading to the latest IC and MMSIM releases. Now to your question, you can use parametric transient analysis or swept PSS to obtain tuning range. The newer releases of MMSIM also come with many useful application notes and workshops for RF IC simulation.

I'm not sure whether you uploaded that file to the wikispace? If so, it's breaking the permissions on the second page of the document and so must be removed.

As you pointed out, <MMSIMinstDir>/tools/spectre/examples/SpectreRF_workshop contains much more up to date information.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

The App Note was not uploaded by me, but I've had it in my bookmarks since I was an undergrad student a few years ago. I'll refrain from making reference to any sites which violate Cadence NDAs and point anyone in need of help to their local documentation.

    Best,

    Tarek
