Class AB Power Amplifier Problem

We designed a pushpull ClassAB power amplifier using Freescale MRF6VP121KH device. The frescale part is designed for L-Band pulsed application with a peak output power of 1000W. We decided to test and tune the amplifier section wise( It has two sections whos output is combined to get the 1000W output) seperately. During testing the device suddenly got failed when the output power reaches 250W. We tried it with the other section. Same thing repeated. We found the Gate shorted. While taking Ex-Ray of the device we found the that the drain is burned. any one know the possible cause??

Thanks.
