Inductor Layout

Hi guys

Recently, I'm drawing the inductor in the layout. My procedure to do this is, first drawing a ring, second convert it to polygon. But I find it is not very convenient since after you convert the ring into the polygon the width of the metal can't be changed.

Could someone know how to solve this? Or is there any other better procedure to draw an inductor and transformer?

    Why do you need to convert it to a polygon? Why not keep it as a path?

    Cadence used to have a tool called Virtuoso Passive Component Designer that synthesizes DRC-legal inductors, but has been discontinued for the last ~4 years. A similar tool is offered by Helic Inc. called VeloceRF.

     Not sure I understand what you mean. What's a "ring"? (I presume you drew a path, and made a spiral. An inductor wouldn't be a ring - so your question doesn't make much sense to me).

    Sorry to make you confused.

    "ring"  I mean my first step is to draw a ring, a circle.(in Cadence layout window, under the menu EDIT). Then I draw the second ring which has larger diameter, and erase some of them. Finally I connect them where I earse, thus making a two turns of spiral Ind.

    It's still not entirely clear, but I think you really want either a pcell to create the inductor geometries, or one of the various third-party inductor synthesis tools on the market.

    You could also place an instance of passiveLib/spiralInd/layout - passiveLib can be added to your cds.lib using:

    define passiveLib $(inst_root_with:tools/dfII/bin/virtuoso)/tools/dfII/samples/artist/passiveLib

    That said, I don't think this is supported any more - it's not documented these days. I played quickly and couldn't make it work.

    did u find solution for inductor layout in cadence? i have to layout inductor of value 485pH for on chip design. did you help me in this regard. thans!
