NF simulation using EM-extracted S-parameter touchstone

Hello Support team,

case study:

1.S-parameter ( S17P, touchstone, 17 ports) for a passive package is extracted using EM simulation ( EMPro)

2.testbench is made In ADS and performed s-parameter simulation ,noise simulation. The result are matched to Empro simulation and also NF simulation is realistic.

3.use the same s-parameter set and same test bench in cadence ( IC6….), performed the same S-parameter simulation and noise simulation. S-parameter results matched to EM pro and ads- results but NF simulation results doesn’t match to ads results.( 200 mdB different in NF- result)(here I used probe and port setup in cadence)

4-If I make a testbench in ADS for 17 port and don't connect ports I don’t need with  and extracted again from 17 ports( s17p-> to s2p) file a 2-port file.than I used in cadence 2-port instance for simulation ( from analoglib) and used extracted 2-port file then all results from cadence match to ADS and EM-pro.

conclusion: using 2-port and 2-port touchstone file  for NF-simulation, result is matched but using nport  and N-port touchstone for NF simulation result is differed.

I am wondering, which equation cadence use to perform NF simulation using S-parameter for N-port?

If you want an in-depth look at this, please contact http://support.cadence.com and file a Case.

The equations for NF, NFmin, etc. are discussed in the Virtuoso ViVA XL User Guide under Calculator functions.

Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis XL User Guide Product Version 6.1.6 June 2015

Also, look at the Virtuoso® Spectre® Circuit Simulator and Accelerated Parallel Simulator RF Analysis User Guide (MMSIM14.1 Chapter 8.)

You didn't mention how your nport was set up.  Perhaps the properties differ?  Also, you don't mention how the sp simulation is set up.   There can be differences in setup default values.   There isn't enough information to give specific advice.

I cannot comment on ADS and EM-Pro.

    best regards
