Interstage matching in Cadence Virtuoso

Hello,

I am trying to create a multistage amplifier operating around 200 GHz in Cadence Virtuoso. Could someone tell me how I can measure the impedances at intermediate nodes? I need this so that I can do conjugate matching between stages.

In the past, I have designed amplifiers using ADS. I used 'SP probe' between the stages to measure impedances. Is there something similar in Cadence Virtuoso?

I read something about 'sprobe' in cadence forums. I think I need to use that block. But unfortunately, I could not find it in my analogLib. Has it been added recently? Or am I missing something? (I'm using IC617)

Thanks.

If I understand your question, I believe this document will help understand its use in finding an interstage impedance for use in matching.

Have you examined this? The note indicates the following:

    "The sprobe was introduced in IC617 ISR15, ICADV12.3 ISR15 and Spectre 16.1 ISR8."

Hence, if your installation is earlier than ISR15, it will not be in the analogLib.

    Dear ShawnLogan,

Thank you for your answer. I am using ISR4. That's why I don't have the sprobe component.

You can build an sprobe yourself if you want, see edadocs.software.keysight.com/.../viewpage.action

    Hello sidt

Definitely upgrade your version of software.  You're using a very old version of code.  The sprobe is pretty easy to use.  My article walks you through it step by step.

Article (20472560) Title: Using the Spectre sprobe to measure impedance/stability in impedance matching networks and multi-stage designs
    URL: https://support.cadence.com/apex/ArticleAttachmentPortal?id=a1O0V000006Ak2KUAS

We've also made quite a few improvements to the analogLib nport in IC618ISR9/ICADVM181ISR9 and later.   You can now plot immittance (as well as impedance and admittance) on the Smith Chart.

    Many great things in IC6.1.8/ICADVM18.1/ICADVM20.1!

    Best regards,

    Tawna

    Hi Tawna,
Thanks for the reply. I upgraded to IC618 and spectre 19. I now have access to sprobe.
