Error when trying to generate SUL license (-8)

Hi, newbie here.

We are using AWR Design Enviroment in our university and so I have to install it (OS: Arch Linux)
I installed it in a Windows 10 VM without problems.

When I try to start it prompts "Failed to connect to license server", I guess thats the first problem.

After that when trying to generate my SUL License it will prompt Internal Error -8 (see Image)

I can't find something on Error -8 :/ and overall the available data to the license topic is quit low :/

If someone has a solution for that I would gladly hear about it :)

    AWR is windows based tool and for licensing you just need to login through Config tab.  So install AWR on Windows only.

    Regarding AWR SUL error issue,  I am not sure if it's setup correctly.  Please check the following link for AWR SUL license setup.  If still you are getting error please email this issue with more detail on universityprogram@cadence.com.

    Hi thanks for the reply,

    I mean it is a windows VM would suggest that is detected as Windows OS. I talked to a colleague today on his machine also windows VM on OpenSUSE it works flawlessly. :/

    I guess you are trying to run using wine app on Linux and not on a VM. We do not support this environment for licensing API.
    SUL is not supported on linux. If the end-user is running the product on a Windows VM which is installed on a linux machine and error coming then email QA logs to analyze.

    Perform the following steps to set variable and generate log file:

    1. Access the Windows button, then Run systempropertiesadvanced > Environment Variables > System Variables > New > CDS_LIC_QA_TesT = c:\cadence\qalog.txt
    2. After setting this variable, invoke the SUL enabled application. If you get a Licensing error, send the qalog.txt file to Customer Support. The qalog.txt file can grow quite large over time. Hence, it is best to unset the variable when your problem is solved.

  • Hi Skar, I am in a similar situation to you at the moment. I too am trying to install AWR using Wine. And I am also getting the same error code when trying to generate license. If you could please share your solution, it would be highly appreciated.

    Hi, i'm glad I'm not the only one xd
    I ended up trying to install it via wine, since when licensing there will be somewhat a call to the OS which will end up to be and Unix Kernel even with wine.
    Personally at the moment I just use the PC's in university (they have a local license server). An VM solution didn't work for me on Arch Linux, I know of a course member of mine who got it working in a Virtual Box enviroment with OpenSuse.
    But it will get to the problem(VM) again in about two weeks when I have more time, If I suceed I will let you know.
