OrCAD X Presto PCB Editor: How to add pins to a PCB symbol

In Presto, you can add a pin to a PCB symbol by using one of the following three methods:

  1.  Add a pin by searching for padstacks.
  2. Build/add a pad by using Padstack Wizard (available in OrCAD X Professional only).
  3. Build/add a pad by using Padstack Editor.

Once the padstack is created using any of the three methods, the add pin command (Add Pin Widget) becomes active and you specify pin parameters before placing.

Add a pin by searching for padstacks

When you choose Add Pin using Search, a Search panel opens at the bottom of the UI, which lists all pads in the $padpath and current working directory.

Clicking on a pad from the list in the Search panel shows the pad information in the Properties panel. Double-clicking on a pad from the list attaches the pad to the cursor and opens Add Pin Widget.

Adding pins with Padstack Editor

To launch the padstack editor, choose the third option (Padstack Editor) from the floating Add Pin toolbar. You can create a new padstack or open an existing one and make modifications.

This Padstack Editor is the same as the Allegro X PCB Editor.

Adding pins with Padstack Wizard

The wizard utility can guide you through the required inputs to add or create a new padstack. Surface and ThruHole types of padstack can be created.

You can see Surface and ThruHole options in the following image:

Add Pin Widget

Once the padstack is created using any of the above methods, the add pin command becomes active as follows and you can specify pin parameters to place the padstack.

Pin type can be electrical or mechanical. You can place a single pin or an array of pins. Array of pins can be rectangular or polar. Once the parameters are specified, the pad will get attached to the cursor and you can place the pin on the canvas.
