Using Presto every day is a real struggle with all the bugs and crashes, etc. Anyone else using it 100% of the time? Is the other pcb editor as buggy?

Like just this morning.  It took me 6 tries to sync the schematic to the pcb.  Tried 3 times with Presto... looks like it worked, but didn't... then used the regular tool... nope.... then after 2 more presto tries, it works.  Why?  No clue at all.  Didn't change a thing.  Just kept on closing the schematic and pcb tools and re trying.  That's it.

I find that the schematic tool will crash often when trying to sync after doing some changes in the schematic.  I often need to close the tool and then re open to sync.

Often when things that just seem to not be working... shutting the pcb and schematic tools fixes whatever issue I had.

Is this the same for everyone?  Or is it just this buggy?

Also, why is the schematic tool so different from BOTH pcb tools.  Why is the zoom different, etc?  It's like all three different pieces were designed in different decades :(

I'm hoping the Sept or Oct update will fix a lot of these issues.  Takes me 5X longer to do anything in this tool compared to Altium.

Anyone have info on what is going to be updated and fixed?  Seems like the only real work is on the Allegro tools and anything Orcad like gets left behind...

Hi DG202504226528 , this should not take you this much tries. Can I ask which version you are on?

I'm on 24.1 and now have Hot Fix 6.  Even after the update, I find that both tools are still buggy.  Every time I do updates in the schematic tool, I need to close it and then re open it before synching with the pcb or the schematic editor always squacks about errors... but if I close and re open...no errors and it'll try synching.  I've given up on synching with Presto.  I'm just using the old pcb tool for synching now.  Seems to work a bit better.

It'd be great if the pcb and schematic tools were integrated together and actually worked the same... like same way to zoom, pan, etc...

Can we get a preview or update on what changes will be implemented and things fixed in the 25 update coming soon?  Or is this update again just mostly for Allegro users?  Seems like the Orcad side never gets any real work done to it, just Allegro.

Also, please put the Orcad documentation online like other companies do. This crazy weird documentation install and updates is odd to me.  It's just gross and not really useable.

Also, why is this forum make it so hard to post images, etc... Hard to convey things sometimes with this forum being so strict on everything.  Most of my earlier posts asking for help were called out as spam :)

Hi DG202504226528 , Thanks for sharing, 25.1 has updates both for OrCAD and Allegro. We will be sharing what's new soon. So keep an eye on this space.

For the Forum infrastructure issues, there is a known problem at the backend and infra team is working on it.

Regaridng your issue on the syncing, I beileve we need to look at it, I have already sent you an email and we can sync up there to further debug this.

I tried the Presto Layout environment but did not start to use it as my favourite display option "Skeletal view" had not been implemented. Maybe in the future if Cadence includes this option. Regarding the schematic to layout integration, I have experienced the same problems so instead of sync I create netlists the old way and then invoke the PCB editor environment and import the netlists from there. I would actually prefer using this method as it enables me to try different schematic versions on different PCB versions without altering an existing PCB design. It may seem silly but sometimes when there is a need for checking wether a complex upgrade would fit an existing design, there is a need for testing.

The best new feature would be if Cadence introduced System Capture as the new schematic editor tool also in OrCAD Professional. The last time I saw this in use was during my last employment where we had a license for it. After that I have only seen the improvements listed in each HotFix CCR text file, for instance the possibility to use .OLB libraries. I liked the GUI very much as it seemed much more modern in comparison. Cadence once did away with the old "Layout" (.MAX) and instead introduced the Allegro product. If SC was to be introduced there would be one single product range only characterized by the number of features for each level.

    My 5 cents.

I have the same problems. Constant crashes without any warnings, syncing issue, constraint manager acting up. Even just plain saving a capture project, the suite just crashes. A collegaue had the same problem.

Standard reply from Cadence is to share the project, but they never fixes the bugs. I have bugs I reported 5 years ago, no fixes.

In Altium, I don't see much problems, almost never crashes. AND, the software is logical....
