17.4 HF019 - GPU Support - Skeletal View gone !

Having downloaded and installed the latest HF for 17.40 I was greeted with a splash screen that my Nvidea Quadro (K2000) board was detected and asked if the GPU support should be switched on. Accepting this, the display changed and the response was indeed quicker but: The skeletal view of the various elements was not longer possible to achieve. I have used this over the years with the possibility to dim and set skeletal view options according to the sliders in the viewing pane.

It is not also possible to adjust the opacity of shapes.

Having checked the nVidea Control panel, there are no options that controls this behavior. Toggling priority between graphic and/or GPU computing or adjusting the performance slider have no effect.

It is possible to have the pads tranparent but traces or shapes - No.

I also downloaded HF020 today but could not see any change.

I discovered that there was indeed a driver update available for the Quadro K2000 board. Downloaded, installed and invoked Allegro with GPU support enabled. The behavior was strange. I could change the transparency of the traces. Skeletal view of traces not possible. The shapes was solid and "non-dimable". It was also not possible to change them into any form of skeletal view.

So far, I am not impressed with this feature. I disabled it. It would be nice if Cadence fixes this in a very near future...

Which front-end are you using? I think that I have found a difference with the GPU acceleration between using OrCAD Capture / Design Entry CIS for the netlist and using Design Entry HDL / System Capture for the netlist. The Shape Transparency works as expected, and is controlled by the Display Settings, for the Design Entry HDL / System Capture netlist case but they seem to be resolutely "solid" for the OrCAD Capture / Design Entry CIS case. I do admit to only checking two designs but there is a difference.

Our license is Allegro Venture (with licenses for System Capture and DE-HDL). Normally using Capture CIS as front end. It was when first invoking the PCB Editor that the splash-screen greeting about the presens of a GPU was displayed.

    Odd indeed...
