Capture - Net name from port name

Is there a setting for automatically naming nets from port names in a hierarchical design? That is, when creating a netlist for Allegro in Capture.

NO, the Port Name in a Hierarchical Schematic is merely used to match the name of the Hierarchical Pin in the block above that references the schematic and make the connection. Net Names in a hierarchical design are determined from the highest level in the hierarchy that the wire connecting to the Hierarchical Pin is named, which includes both "default", automatically assigned, names and Net Aliases. It would be impossible to have a complex hierarchy, repeated blocks referencing the same underlying schematic, if the Hierarchical Ports and Pins were used in any way to name Nets.

Hello.  I have a question related to Nets, Ports and Hierarchical designs.  I have high level hierarchical blocks defined as my root.  I also have connectors defined in the root/high level hierarchy.

It does not seem as if there is a net defined for CANH that goes to Pin 7 shown on the lower level schematic.  This seems to correlate with what you mentioned.  Is it illegal to put components on a high level of the schematic at the root?  It seems like it calls the same line a NET name in the top level, but not the bottom level.  Any workarounds?  Do I have to create another hierarchical block with my connectors or do I have to bring the connector into the hierarchical block.  I have two different blocks connecting to the same connector!!!

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Regards,

    Bryon

Try just naming that net (N17703) to be CANH and then that would be the same netname all the way through the hierarchy. Take a look at:- Using Power Nets in OrCAD Capture (parallel-systems.co.uk) for a bit more detail
