Capture: how to reset annotation for selected parts

Hello everyone

Tried to reset refdefs for selected items with the annotation tool, but it looks like I'm unable to make it work (apparently).

This is an example:

After pressing OK, I'd expect J3 to be changed to J?, instead it stays the same. Console tells me "INFO(ORCAP-1379): Done updating part references"

What am I missing here?

If I try resetting the whole design, it works.

Thanks for your help and patience

    It does not work like that because "Reset Part Reference" is set to ? in the action pane.

    You can reset selected components to their base state but you have to re annotate the design to automatically update the references again. ( Two step processes )

    The alternate would be to manually change a reference dez on the schematic sheet but doing this could lead to references getting out of sequence etc. May not be a big deal if you happen to know what ref dez would be next for
    assignment.

    Thanks excellon1... that was exactly what I was trying to do - I was trying to reset selected instances to their base state , so that I can re-annotate in a second step. So how do you do that? I'm still not clear...

    Well you would annotate the way you did it when you first annotated the schematic.

    That would be.

    Scope = Update Entire Design
    Action = Incremental Reference Update
    Mode = Update Instances ( Preferred )

    BTW, if  your schematic just has a few components. You can enter the ref dez on the symbol, like r1, r2, r3 etc for resistors and the like. Doing this means you can specifically assign the reference you want to use. "You don't have to annotate anything" Annotation is just a convenience.

    If a symbol on your schematic contains a " ? " for the ref dez it means that no reference is assigned. So the choices then become. Enter the ref dez manually or let the system auto assign them for you by using the annotate tool.
