jishu
jishu over 4 years ago

hello All,

I have been trying to install the CIP server but after the installation progress completes I get this error and the installation terminates showing this error:

there was an error running the SQL script NEW_CIP_E.sql. setup will now terminate

line: 37

Error: password validation failed, the password does not meet the operating system policy requirement because it is too short.(15116)

tried disabling password policy in administrative tools>local security policy>.password policy but none helped. thanks in advance for any help or suggestion..

Regards,

Jishu

The SQL server instance you are connecting appears be guided by a corporate requirement that the login credentials (connecting the CIP server to the SQL server) must be longer than 8 characters.

But, the CIP password has been 8 characters since 2010 when I bought a personal license

I don't think you want to change this password as EMA will have to change their internal code and you will have to get help with every CIP install update.

Hope you can find a solution.

It's a corporate rule that prevents 8 character passwords on your SQL server.   I don't know if they can allow 8 character passwords long enough for you to install it to get  past this roadblock (does MS go back and lock you out if you aren't complying?   no idea.).

The password CIP uses is well documented.  Ultimately, It's safe as this login won't have 'SELECT * FROM' privs that one would use to pull data directly to Excel.   You can only pull data through the CIP stored procedures.

Or, use SQL Server Management Studio.  .

For you, the easiest path is for IT to allow 8 character SQL passwords and encourage everyone to use longer pass creds when it's an option.

Reading the installation document, you can create the two CIP-E required User Accounts ahead of running the Server / Database Installer. These accounts can be set to meet "whatever" account Security requirements there are for your SQL Server account passwords, the installer will find that the accounts already exist and skip the phase that creates the accounts. Also see in the installation document comments about account security enforcement.

There are two SQL login credentials that CIP needs in your MS-SQL instance:  CIP-E-internal-user and CIP-E-CIS-user.   The spelling/punctuation is mangled on purpose.  Refer to the install guide.

The CIP-E-internal-User login/password most likely cannot deviate from what is stated in the installation manual.  Or, you are breaking the only link between CIP and your MS SQL server instance.

For years, EMA put in their documentation they have to make a special CIP installer for those not able to use the 8-character password/username documented in the installation guide.

CIP-E-CIS-User credentials appear to only link Capture CIS to MS-SQL, not to the CIP/IIS mechanism.

CIP is an EMA-EDA product resold by Cadence.  Has anyone (Cadence-direct customers) reached out to EMA for help with CIP?
