Component location export to BoM

RSYED
RSYED over 3 years ago

I'm using Capture 17.4 and in the past I would be able to backannotate/sync to pull in component side/location information (i.e. top or bottom) from layout to capture.
I could subsequently export that information to my BOM. Does anyone have any insight on how to do this in 17.4?

Thanks!

Positions on the BOM is an unusual approach as for a lot of companies, the BOM changes frequently due to parts availability and other reasons.

X,Y needs to track the board rev, not the BOM rev.   The placement CSV file is either extracted from IPC2581/ODB++ data by whatever software is used to program the vision system on the pick-n-place line along with stuffing the board.

Probably don't want to expose position data to the ops team unless they were doing the line program.   Info like that tends to vanish.

Trained on Fuji SMT (CP-6, IP-3, MSX) back in the 90's when Scicards was still a thing.

We do it as the BOM gets imported in to our ERP system, which generates the work travellers the floor staff use to visual the board. The X,Y is not important mainly just if it is a top side or bottom side component.
This is particular important for through hole parts as we do manual stuffing.

Try adding a property PCB_MIRROR in allegro.cfg file and then do PCB -> Update Schematic from capture. It should work for you.

Usually you don't want CAD to re-export every single BOM rev as we(I) wouldn't get anything done.  But, if it works, I understand.

But, I think you are going to need something outside of the Cadence workflow to get this done.

Any property was transferred  from Allegro PCB editor into capture through the Backannotation process. In Capture 17.4 this can be done through the menu command PCB > Update Schematic.

You can control the allegro.cfg file parameters through the menu PCB > Design Sync setup.

Once a property is successfully transferred into capture, you can try transferring that property to BOM. In order to do that, select Reports > CIS BOM and you will find a list of properties to be transferred in the output format in this dialogue box.
