Part from Spreadsheet Copy/Paste

How do I paste into the Part from Spreadsheet function on Capture CIS 17.4?  I cannot paste into columns with dropdown entries such as pin type, shape, or position.  The other columns work.  Interestingly enough, the section column works even though it is possible to use dropdown entry.  Any tips on how to copy/paste with the part from spreadsheet function.

From Excel, use Ctrl+C to copy the value, and use Shift+Insert to paste it in the Browse Spreadsheet form.

To copy from the Browse Spreadsheet form, use Ctrl+Insert and then Ctrl+V to paste in Excel.

Unfortunately that Shift+Insert is as effective as using Ctrl+V.  I'm using the keyworks Power and Short.  Am I formatting the names right for the drop down? Maybe its a Win11 issue?  But I have a feeling its an issue with the 12/6 release of 17.4.

This seems to be working fine and, whilst not officially supported, Windows 11 doesn't seem to be a factor either. To get what you need to start from, start a New Part From Spreadsheet, set a number of sections so that you can have more than one, then fill in some details for the Pins using a variety of options for Pin properties. Once you have a few rows filled in, copy the Pin Properties from the grid and paste them into Excel. Now you have what New Part From Spreadsheet is looking for and you can configure your actual part based on this. Control+C and Control+V work with the New Part From Spreadsheet control, you don't need to use the "Browse Spreadsheet" shortcuts. Also, if you have numeric Pin Numbers, Excel will need to have the cells formatted as Text since New Part From Spreadsheet is only expecting to handle Text. Sections will need to be set so that the number of sections in the Pin Properties can be handled, otherwise "out of range" sections won't get pasted into the Pin Properties Grid. You need to set the Part Number / Sections / Numbering Type options since these can't be read into the New Part From Spreadsheet control.

I double checked the number of sections and pins, and even tried pasting in a few lines at a time.  No luck

I changed the formatting in excel to text, still not luck.

I installed libreoffice calc and attempted it again.  Still no luck.

Its a bummer that windows 11 isn't supported, its been out for 4 months now.  I wish cadence would just import csv files instead of relying on copy/paste and clunky dropdown menus.

Cadence do support the import of CSV, and many other text file formats, using Allegro PCB Librarian.

The attached files have an Excel workbook and an OLB created from that workbook with a copy / paste to the New Part From Spreadsheet, so this does work as expected for filling in the drop-downs. I am running 17.4-2019.s026.

In terms of getting Windows 11 officially supported, in addition to internal testing, Cadence would need to have the sign-off of Windows 11 support from all the suppliers of third-party components used in building, and testing, the Cadence SPB / OrCAD products, which could easily take some timeSampleFiles.zip
