OrCAD CIS BOM text length limit

I'm trying to fix a text limit issue using a Crystal Report template and I think the issue is caused by the following limitation :
When selecting Report -> CIS Bill of Materials -> Standard, the Part Reference field is limited to 255 characters, which truncates part references for certain components that are in large quantities (resulting string needs to be longer than 255 characters). If the Export BOM to excel check box is selected the problem does not occur.

I'm using OrCAD Capture CIS 17.4

This is down to the design of the BOM Report Template, you would need a licensed installation of SAP Crystal Reports to change this Report Template, or create another, to have "unlimited" output fields. Type Text in Crystal Reports is limited to 255 characters and, back in the day, 255 characters probably couldn't be printed with most physical printers so it wasn't a big deal. If I remember correctly, Crystal Report Variables have no such limitation and can hold "unlimited" output fields. As an alternative, since it doesn't have the limitation, you could use the Excel output, or you could use the "one per line" and post process the text BOM output. in any case, trying to make sense of a text BOM report of "unlimited width" might not be that trivial.

Thank you for your reply. I have already changed the crystal report template field type to "memo" instead of "string" to overcome the character limit but that didn't solve the problem. I suspect that the data generated by Capture for creating the Crystal report is already truncated.
Note that this worked fine with OrCAD capture 16.6, although the internal reporting mechanisms changed a bit (from an access database file (.MDB) to an SQLite database file (.DB ))

In which case, you need to get this reported to Cadence, either directly, or through your Cadence Channel Partner.
