CIS makes your design data management more than easy: CIS-3

From the last two CIS posts, we can now configure our parts database with Capture CIS. Now, other than part management, CIS also offers easy maintenance of the design.

For starters, your parts may have many properties defined on it. However, you don’t need them all to be transferred to the schematic design. Some may only be needed in BOM, and not in the design. Well, you can configure CIS such that only selective properties get transferred to the design. And then, CIS BOM allows you to directly add properties from the database, even if these properties have not been transferred to the design. This keeps your design clutter free while having all the part data handy.

Once a part is placed from CIS, it maintains a link to the database part. Now, this takes care of many things like:

 1. If a part is updated in the database, Part Manager will prompt this. The Update part status feature allows you to update the schematic part as per the database part.

2. If some property value of a part gets accidentally changed in the design, the part can be synced again with the database part.

3. If you placed a part directly from the library, and not from CIS, you can use the Link database part feature to link it to the database part.

4. You can create BOM which can fetch part properties directly from the database.

Give CIS a try and see how easy it becomes to maintain your designs.
