Having trouble finding an object in a Capture Design?

Designers end up spending a lot of time searching an object in complex and large designs. It is quite common that a net name is same as the part pin name. For example, a design can have a net name and pin name as OUT. Now, if you try to search in the design for the OUT net, it shows all part pins and nets of the same name. So, it becomes troublesome to find the desired object.

In Capture 17.4, the enhanced search pane reduces this effort to a great extent. It lets you select the object type that you want to find. You can even specify a property value string.

Capture search has several filters that can be selected depending on the search type. For example, if you want to search only the nets with the OUT name, you can select the Nets filter and search. This will fetch all nets with this name and no part pins with the same name will be listed. This helps save a lot of time. Similarly, there are various other filters like parts, part pins, nets, hierarchical pins, and so on.

The Find options filter also has interesting filters like Match Case, Use Regular Expressions, and Property Name=Value. For example, if you want to search for resistors with the value as 1k, type “Value=1k”  in the text box and select Parts with Property Name=Value from the Find options filter. This will show all resistors with the value of 1k in the design.

If you want to make the search throughout the design, select  .dsn in project manager before doing the search. However, if a schematic page is active, Capture will search only on this active page.

The relevant results of the search are shown in the Find Results window.
