Capture to Allegro SYNC crash

Back to the old days of Cadence stuck and crashing...

Pretty upset with the 17.4 SYNC from Capture to Allegro.

Pressing the SYNC button in Capture with Allegro already opened takes a looonnng time:

it opens more than 30 processes 'cdsMsgServer.exe' and 'productServer.exe', finally updates Allegro after ~45s and eventually crashes Allegro if I move a part or slide a cline.

    Hi,

The problem also exists in 2024 with release 23.1 HF006. In my setup, each time a schematic-PCB sync is performed, then zombies "cdsMsgServer.exe" tasks are added in the task manager. Eventually, Orcad becomes very slow. To recover, either I reboot or I closed all the Orcad applications and kill all the zombie "cdsMsgServer.exe" tasks in task manager.

The problem is not new, in the forum there are plenty of related issues up to 14 year old. I found a trick in there that was able to resolve the issue permanently  for me. Solution: I have modified the following shortcuts properties to "run as administrator": Orcad capture, PCB editor, Presto, and padstack editor. Possibly I will have to repeat the procedure every time I install a hotfix.
