STEP Model Mapping using Database Entry

We have been mapping 3D STEP models when we create our footprints for a while now but the issue that I have is that when you have more than one component that uses the same footprint the STEP model that is used in 3D view is not necessarily the correct component.  We use CAPTURE CIS for our schematics and I was wondering if there was a way to have the STEP model mapping and transformation be a database property that gets passed from CAPTURE to Allegro.  I tried adding the two STEP model properties "PKGDEF_STEP_FILE" and "PKGDEF_STEP_TRANSFORMATION" to a few parts in my schematic and I can see the properties pass into Allegro but they get connected to the "Component Definition" instead of the "Symbol Definition" which is where the STEP model gets mapped when you map it in the footprint.  Is there something that I am missing that would allow me to define the STEP model using properties passed from the CIS database?
