Linking database parts in Capture CIS 17.4 is very slow

Hello all,

I am relatively new to Orcad, especially to its CIS/CIP part. I've noticed that it takes ages to link database parts, on average about 10 seconds per part. Is this normal? Is there any way to speed up the process?
Thanks.

    Hi,

we see the exact same regarding memory usage. Mem usage rises for each part that accesses the database and Orcad never releases the memory afterwards. An Orcad restart is needed. On a big design we need to split into several part manager updates with Orcad restarts in between.

Did you find a solution in your case?

    Hi Cantstandya ,

No, I haven't found the solution but gradually the problem has eased up by itself. I suspect that root cause lied in the original design. As soon as the majority of the parts in that design had been re-linked, the situation seemed to have improved but it took a lot of time and effort.

I just got a support reply from our Cadence vendor and they tried to do 'update all' instead of 'update selected'. And that seems to work well at our site too. Really strange, but an ok workaround I guess. They will report it to Cadence.

The problem that I saw was happening when I was trying to do "Link Database Part" on multiple parts, not "update".
