Linking database parts in Capture CIS 17.4 is very slow

Hello all,

I am relatively new to Orcad, especially to its CIS/CIP part. I've noticed that it takes ages to link database parts, on average about 10 seconds per part. Is this normal? Is there any way to speed up the process?
Thanks.

In the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > ODBC(64-bit). There is a tab called 'Tracing'. If tracing is enabled, this sometimes slows down interaction with the database. The slow down is caused by the logging of calls made to the ODBC datasource. On the tracing tab toggle the button so it says "Start Tracing Now" this indicates tracing is currently off. After this is set CIS should interact with the database much faster.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, tracing was already disabled. I also found that if I try to link a few dozens of the parts at the same time the memory usage skyrockets and everything pretty much freezes forever. I have 32 GB of memory on my PC but I saw that Capture would commit 4 times that while linking a bunch of database parts! I am getting really frustrated as on the top of everything else the software occasionally crashes and even if I close it manually from a working state it leaves behind a bunch of processes and doesn't release the memory. A couple of years ago someone told me not to use versions above 16.something. Should I downgrade? Thanks.

What are you using as your data source?

EMA-EDA's CIP uses MS-SQL, which has a freeware version.

EMA knows CIS better than anyone.

    Hope it gets resolved.
