Capture CIS Database Part Footprint Preview

Q:  Can Capture CIS Database Parts use Allegro .psm files for the footprint preview?

Version:  CIS 2022.1 S001 (4077794)

Details:  I am in the process of converting HDL libraries over to Capture CIS and was unable to preview the PCB footprints in the "Place Database Part" window while testing the libraries.   The footprints did read into the layout when I updated it from the schematic, so that isn't a problem.   After some troubleshooting, I realized that CIS needed to see the .dra files in order to display the preview.  I normally keep the .psm footprint files in a separate directory and I set the CIS.ini to point there.   It wasn't until I copied some .dra files into the the same directory as the .psm files that the preview worked properly.  So, is it possible to use the .psm files to preview footprints or is the use of the .dra files a requirement?

Yes, it does try to look for DRA for footprint preview in CIS explorer.

I tested it and found that if you keep DRA in some separate folder (other then PSM) then you will have to define that path also in capture.ini under [Allegro Footprints] section. After which, you will be able to see footprint again in CIS Explorer.

In most of the cases, PSM and DRA are kept in single directory.
