Dear,

i have some main problems with the bill of materials export. we have no microsoft office on our systems, we use libreoffice. that is the reason why i cant export to excel. if i export the bom list i got an wrong formated file, i think the export file is not csv standard. i can not import the file.

problem, the exported file looks like:

1;93;C1,C2,C4,C5,C9,C17,C20,;100nF;C0201
C21,C22,C27,C29,C39,C40,
C42,C43,C44,C45,C46,C47,
C48,C49,C50,C52,C54,C56,
C57,C58,C59,C60,C61,C64,
C65,C66,C67,C69,C70,C72,
C73,C74,C75,C76,C77,C78,
C79,C80,C81,C82,C83,C84,
C85,C86,C87,C88,C89,C90,
C91,C92,C93,C102,C104,
C105,C106,C109,C111,C113,
C114,C115,C116,C117,C118,
C119,C120,C121,C122,C123,
C124,C125,C126,C127,C128,
C130,C131,C132,C133,C134,
C139,C144,C145,C147,C151,
C152,C153,C154

But it should be:

1;93;C1,C2,C4,C5,C9,C17,C20,C21,C22,C27,C29,C39,C40,C42,C43,C44,C45,C46,C47,C48,C49,C50,C52,C54,C56,C57,C58,C59,C60,C61,C64,C65,C66,C67,C69,C70,C72,C73,C74,C75,C76,C77,C78,C79,C80,C81,C82,C83,C84,C85,C86,C87,C88,C89,C90,C91,C92,C93,C102,C104,C105,C106,C109,C111,C113,C114,C115,C116,C117,C118,C119,C120,C121,C122,C123,C124,C125,C126,C127,C128,C130,C131,C132,C133,C134,C139,C144,C145,C147,C151,C152,C153,C154;100nF;C0201

i think this is a bug, can somebody confirm it?

some solution available, without rework?

thanks

Once CIS BOM is ready to see in Capture CIS, there is option to apply 'Save As' and there are different option to save the file in different formats. You can select any format whichever can be imported or can be opened in libreoffice.

Let me know if you are looking for something else. CSV file created by this operation is standard csv format which could be opened with the help of any tool which supports this file format.

    Hi,

Interesting question because it not good to tie Orcad to another application (microsoft excel) only to have a decent BOM.

The answer is : You can use Libreoffice for your bom!

When you generate the BOM make sure to select "Open in Excel". This will modify the report file format to a CSV type with TAB separator. Also change the extention of the report file for .CSV , Libreoffice relies on extention to properly import data.

After clicking OK, the BOM will be generated in CSV format. Disregard the error pop-up complaining of the missing Excel app.

Start Libreoffice Calc, Open your bom with extention .csv. Select TAB as the only separator, and that should provide you with a usable BOM.

A comment to Cadence development team: In the BOM generation canvas - Add another checkbox below "Open in Excel" that says "Open in other program" and add a possibility to insert the calling arguments, the extension of the generated BOM, data delimiters, etc. and make this setting possible to save as default.
