Local libraries and workspace in OrCAD X 23.1

With OrCAD X 23.1, are we only allowed to use the libraries inside the workspace? This workspace looks like is backed up in a cadence server and I don't want to have design components copied in any server.

When I create a part symbol and footprint for a custom component and save it outside of the workspace, then during component creation I can only see the schematic symbol (probably because is inside the project library) but I can't link the footprint. The only footprints I'm able to see are the ones inside the workspace library but those are backed up in a server outside my company.

There is also no option to create a local workspace where you can have all your libraries and classify components into groups just like you can do in the workspace.

Does anybody else have this problem or know a solution?

A workspace is a cloud-based project storage location to manage all library and design data.

The data which is present in your workspace is Cloud enabled and can be accessible from anywhere. It is always connected to the OrCAD X Cloud, The background data sync utility keeps the data in sync between the local disk and the Cloud.

You can manage the libraries, projects, and design files in the workspaces using the File Manager user interface.
You can publish the component or footprint in any Workspace or in My Workspace.

You can see details about how to share a component in a Workspace with following link:

You can use My Workspace to have all your libraries and footprints.

Let me know in case of any further questions on this.

    Hi Vishwajeet

    thank you for the explanation.

What if I want to have my components stored locally and not backed up in the cloud at all? I don't have a need to share them or access them from multiple location. I just need to be able to organize components by type like in the component explorer but with designs that are stored locally and not backed up in the cloud. Is this possible?

If you want to keep your components locally you can do it by creating a same folder like structure locally in any directory and it will not come up in the Component Explorer.
