Orcad capture 17.2 all pages do not print to PDF

avant
avant 7 months ago

Something changed recently. When I try to print a PDF from Orcad 17.2, all options in the panel are blank. I fill in the options and only one page will print. Reopening the schematic, all options are blank again.

If I open the schematic in 17.4, the print options are checked and all pages print.

It seems like there may be a config file for 17.2 that is corrupt and I cannot change?

Any idea what and where to look into?

Did you manage to resolve this yet?  I just had the same thing happened to me on my 17.2 installation which was working fine earlier in the week, but my 24.1 on the same machine is still fine.   My vendor's support suggested a few things to try to do but they're all a little drastic so I was wondering if you knew actually which one thing actually fixed it.

Annoyingly this is the second time it's happened to me and the first time I managed to do >something< through the UI and it started working again, but I can't for the life of me figure that out.

It definitely seems to be somewhat environment or configuration related as it affects all designs, and those designs print fine in other versions on same machine.  Most notably the print dialog has as you say all options deselected and it doesn't save any changes you make, plus the page size instead of being selected is listed as "static" and some hxv showing at bottom instead of actual page sizes in mm.

I did not resolve the issue. I'm now using my 17.4 software for this.

It is too much effort and risk for me to uninstall and reinstall Capture 17.2, only one of our admins are allowed do it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

For what it is worth, I discovered only some of my printers aren't working.  I have an installation of CutePDF on the machine and that works fine with 17.2 to output all PDF pages, print dialog is working fine there.  I have an HP laser that is broken in the same way as the Microsoft PDF printer, yet another HP inkjet works fine.  It really is quite the mystery.

At the suggestion of the vendor I tried removing the workspace registry tree, renaming the config files directory, and re-installing the Visual C libraries, none of those helped.  I also re-installed the hotfix over the top of my installation and that didn't do anything.

I'm not sure I fancy uninstalling 17.2 as a colleague recently tried to get it running on a W11 machine and had issues.  I'm moving onto 24.1 for my own projects but I still have legacy clients wanting me to work in 17.2 as that is all they have access to, so that installation is a little precious.

I wonder what is different about the printers that work Vs those that don't, and what stopped them working.  Very frustrating!
