Mouse Wheel Zoom Breaks Expectations

CTRL + SCROLL moves the cursor to the center of the screen and pans the document with it. This violates decades of UX precedent. The semantics of the scroll wheel are that it will move other things, but never the cursor. Zoom should not pan the document, because that breaks the user's point of focus. It is particularly jarring when moving back and forth between the PCB editor where scroll zoom behaves naturally (and has preferences for natural variations).

Please consider adding a preference to disable zoom translation.

It is unusual to give vertical scroll priority in a 2D document where horizontal scrolling is equally important. The standard behavior in 2D CAD interfaces is to give binding priority to zoom over 1D scrolling.

Please consider adding a preference to swap the zoom and scroll bindings.

Middle click is using an outdated omnidirectional scroll UX that use mouse movements to set scroll angle and speed. This leaves the cursor and the users focus away from their original point of interest when the operation is complete. Grab and drag (roam) is the modern standard that preserves cursor focus.

Please consider adding a preference for middle click roaming. (allegro::designhdl_pan)

    Hi

A feature enhancement request has already been submitted to perform zooming while scrolling and panning using the mouse middle button in OrCAD Capture, similar to the functionality available in the Allegro PCB Editor tool.
