How do I recover a previous installation of OrCAD

RWBurroughs

I have a license for OrCAD 17.4 and recently had to reset my laptop, and in the process lost my installation. I had purchased my copy through EMA-EDA, and when I contacted them, they said that my maintenance agreement has expired. The only option they gave me was to purchase a new maintenance agreement for $850/year, which I can't afford. Is there any other way I could recover it? Is there any way to reinstall it from the old installation footprint? Thanks for any help that could be offered.

    Hi,

    It depends on the type of license that you have purchased. Is it a limited time subscription or a perpetual license. If it is perpetual, then it is good from 100 years!

    See below my perpetual license exemple below. It is good til 2123 !

    FEATURE OrCAD_PCB_Designer cdslmd 24.1 12-jan-2123 1 \
    xxxxxxxxxxxxx VENDOR_STRING=UHD:LicFileVersion:PERM \
    DUP_GROUP=UHD vendor_info=02-dec-2024 \
    ISSUER=CDNSxxxxxxxxxxx30dc2697fd11c ISSUED=02-dec-2024 \
    SN=2024-12-02T06:49:06.330 SIGN2="xxxx ....\
    .... \
    xxxx" V7.1_LK=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    If you stop paying the maintenance it means that you cannot install an Orcad version higher than the one specified in your license file. In my case, it is version 24.1. You said in your case it is version 17.4.

    Then your only problem is to get your hand on the installation files. If EMA-EDA does not help, then you should still have your account with Cadence. Go there (downloads.cadence.com/.../Welcome.eo), and you can download any cadence software. Orcad 17.4 installation files are still there for a while. Hurry up because it is old and it will probably be taken out of the server sooner than later.

    Thanks for your response. I looked on my license and it says that my licensed rights stated 23-Mar-2022 and expire 25-Dec-2100. I tried that link you shared but get this error (Error 404: java.io.FileNotFoundException: SRVE0190E: File not found: /Welcome.eo)

    Hi,

    Try this link instead : support.cadence.com

    If you don't have a cadence account, here a procedure to get one.

    -Click on the "Create an account button"

    -enter a new email and password

    -it will ask for a 6 digit code, you can forget it

    -Instead you will received a confirmation email, open it

    -In the email click on validate button

    -A new webpage opens asking for host id.

    -To get host id, lookinto your license file. it is a 12-digit hexadecimal string

    -Paste it in the cadence page.

    Hopefully you will be granted an account.

    -open cadence page again and login with new credentials

    -click on Software menu , then on software download

    -Select software on left tab ÈOrcad/Allegro 17.4

    -in the main screen, you will have the download link

    Good luck.

    If it does not work, Cadence should help you, they monitor the forum and provide help without checking if you are on maintenance or not.

    Yes, I have a Cadence account. I had backups on an external hard drive, but apparently, I didn't have installation files, or I couldn't find them. I was able to reach out to EMA-EDA and get a temporary access from them to download and install the software again. Thanks for your help.
