Creating a component from a Xilinx/AMD package file

Has anyone done this? Capture complains that it can't read the txt files from Xilinx when you try to import a package file using any of the file formats listed - Xilinx Pin file, Xilinx M! Pad file, APD BGA txt file, etc.

Hi, Yes I have seen this before. More than likely it is because the file format is not an exact match hence it will fail on import.

There is another way to create a part, its fairly easy if you uses something like a spreadsheet editor to prepare the vendor pin list in advance.

In capture open any library, when the library opens click the library name so it highlights. On the tool bar choose "Design > "New Part from Spreadsheet"

This will allow you to create a new or multi section symbol. Check the help file for an explanation of the fields..

The main fields you need from the vendor are pin Number & pin name and what the pin is such as power or ground etc. The idea is to load the file into something like
excel to clean things up. You then paste the data into the Orcad spreadsheet.

On you tube do a search for "Creating a New Part from Spreadsheet in the OrCAD X Capture Schematic" for some tips on this.

    Best Regards.
