Some off-sheet connectors in the DSN file are lost in OrCad X Capture 25.1

Some off-sheet connectors in the DSN file are lost in OrCad X Capture 25.1 free viewer.

When we opened the DSN file in OrCad X Capture 25.1 free viewer, we saw the following exception and warning.

"Page Read Exception: Skipping remaining page objects: : Off page connector read failure

WARNING(ORDBDLL-1191): Correcting page '09 - CAN, Ethernet, DSPI' of design for inconsistencies in database. Some information might be lost in the process."

The same issue is observed when using the following:

  • OrCAD X Capture 24.1 free viewer
  • OrCAD X Capture 25.1 Professional Plus with Free Trial
  • PSpice for TI

However, the same version of OrCad X Capture 25.1 free viewer does not have the issue in a different environment.

The issue is observed in the Japanese environment, but not in the English and Spanish environments.

There is a compatibility issue with the Japanese environment, and we want to clarify whether it is an issue with the OrCad X Capture tool or with the DSN file.

Also, if there is a workaround, please let us know.

Best regards,

Daisuke

Generally, this message appears in different scenarios:

While reading pages and computing tool-generated net names. If due to some corruption, the same net name gets assigned to more than one net, then the above message is returned.
If Capture detects this type of error on a page, it auto corrects the net connectivity by recomputing connectivity for that page and prints a message like the following:

INFO(ORDBDLL-1191): Page PAGE* has database errors; autocorrection in progress. You might lose information.

You will see '*' after the page name in Project Manager as it is not yet saved after the above operation. After you save the page and the design, this warning goes away and is not displayed on reopening the design. There should not be any loss of information in this case.

This can also appear due to missing part from the mentioned path in design cache.
To correct the error, the library having the mentioned part needs to be placed at mentioned library location.

Example: Part A from G:\\CAPTURE_TEST\\CAPTURE\\TRANSISTORS.OLB in the design cache is missing.
To resolve it, you need to create the library at the above location.

As you have mentioned this scenario is occurring only in Viewer in Japanese environment, is this reproducible in OrCAD X Capture schematic tool Version 25.1 not viewer ?

In which version of OrCAD X Capture the schematic design was originally created ?

    Hi Jeet-san,

    Thank you for your cooperation.

I checked using OrCAD X Capture 25.1 Professional Plus with Free Trial on another PC, and the issue was reproducible.

We used the OrCAD viewer to check the schematic data of the evaluation board provided by the IC manufacturer. When I asked the IC manufacturer, they said that the DSN file was used OrCAD 17.4.

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

Can you try opening the schematic design in OrCAD X Capture license version and check if the issue is reproducible or not ?

    Hi Jeet-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, we do not have an OrCAD Capture license version, so I cannot check it.

Our customer wants to design based on the DSN file of the evaluation board. So they should have an OrCAD Capture license version, I will ask them to check it.

I want to clarify whether the issue is a bug in OrCAD X Capture or an error in the DSN file. If it is an error in the DSN file, I will contact the IC manufacturer again.

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

    Daisuke- san,

As you have mentioned this problem occurs only in Japanese environment at your end in Free Viewer of OrCAD Capture, I would request you to ask client if they face the same issue in license version of OrCAD Capture in Japanese environment or in English environment.
