HOME environment variable clashes with other software

Cadence depends on the env var HOME to store user config. The issue is, many programs expect HOME to point to the users home directory, however, Cadence has hijacked the HOME variable. Is there an alternative env var I can use that Cadence will look at first, like CADENCE_HOME or something along those lines?
